Dr. Hagen B.E. Klieb HBSc, MSc, DMD, FRCD(C) Oral Pathologist

Dr. Klieb gradated from the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill University and was awarded the Gold medal for highest standing. He subsequently completed specialty training at the University of Toronto and obtained his Master of Science degree in the field of molecular biology. Dr. Klieb is a certified specialist of oral and maxillofacial pathology and oral medicine. He is a Member of the Royal College of Dentists of Ontario and Fellow and Examiner with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Information For Patients

Pathology, in general, is the study of disease. An oral pathologist is an expert of diseases and pain disorders affecting the mouth and oral-facial region. Dr. Klieb practices in both a laboratory and clinical setting. As a hospital pathologist, he sees tissue specimens and assists clinicians by providing microscopic analysis.

First Visit

The first visit usually takes 30 minutes and involves several questions regarding ones medical history and current problem. Patients should bring a list of current medications and, if applicable, any details pertaining to previous investigations (eg. blood work and radiographs).

Fees

Consultation in hospital is covered by OHIP as are most procedures (eg. biopsy). There may be a fee for radiographs. Patients must be referred to the hospital by their physician or dentist.

Oral Cancer

Oral cancer may assume a variety of appearances including a white patch, red patch, open sore (ulcer) or mass. This can occur in any part of the mouth but the sides and undersurface of the tongue are most commonly affected. It is not unusual for oral cancers to go unnoticed for a prolonged time, as initially, there may be no associated pain or symptoms.
